We provide a full lead survey of buildings or specific locations where work is to be carried out that may involve disturbance of paint coatings.
Lead Paint Testing
Excessive exposure to lead has long been recognised as a hazard to health. Excessive exposure to lead can lead to lead poisoning.
Paint in older buildings can contain lead as this was used as pigments in the paint itself and was also used as pre-preparation primer paints.
The Health and Safety Executive has explicit regulations, guidance and approved code of practice documentation for the Control of Lead at Work.
The aims of the various documents are to:
Protect the health of people at work by preventing or, where this is not reasonably practicable, adequately controlling their exposure to lead; and;
Monitor the amount of lead that employees absorb so that individuals whose work involves significant exposure (as defined by the Regulations) to lead
The overall aim of protection is to avoid inhalation, ingestion or absorption of lead from dust or fumes.
If you suspect there may be lead paint present within your property or your place of work this may require sampling to confirm the presence or absence of lead. Our trained surveyors are on hand to help you. We'll attend your property to collect samples of the suspect materials and send them for analysis.
There are responsibilities on employers and their representatives, and all employees to minimise risk, as with any other hazard. This will apply to managers, supervisory staff, and safety representatives, as well as those with a specific responsibility to control exposure to lead at work.
Our trained surveyor will be on site to carry out a full survey or a sampling as directed by the client.
The samples will be analysed by an independent UKAS accredited laboratory to determine the lead content by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS Analysis). The samples containing lead will be identified and the percentage of lead contents calculated.
A full report will be provided based on the site observation and quantitative analysis of the paint coating samples taken during the survey or sampling.
